Kimura’s Diary: On “Games, Robots, and Love”

Hello everyone.
This is Kimura-san, your indie-videogame-making Uncle.
As you know, I’m currently hard at work developing a new RPG.
As usual, I’ve been very busy.

Today, I’d like to talk about “games, robots, and love”.

At some point in the future, a bipedal humanoid robot and an AI will merge…

Will there be a future where robots who move by their own will, like Osamu Tezuka’s “Astro Boy”, make games together?

Recently, as I chatted with the popular ChatGPT, I was struck by how naturally the conversation flowed.
It seemed to raise the question of what a human being even is.
If humanoid robots as kind-hearted as Astro Boy appeared in the real world and started making videogames, I might start feel many different things.

“Robots are cooler than us!”

“What’s the point of being human?”

Things like that.

But, I think there is still a point.
The point is that a human being has a “heart.”

The games I make are born from “my heart”.

The part of a human that feels pleasure is the main “body” of a human being.
None of that is meaningless.

Petting a fluffy animal.

Hugging the person you love.

Beating your opponent at a board game!

Being kind to someone, and receiving kindness from someone.
“I am just what my heart feels I am.”

Games are born from that “heart”.

So, no matter how much robots evolve, I think the existence of human beings will still mean something…

Perhaps as AI evolves and begins to perform more tasks for us…

The only thing humans will do is “love each other” and “fight”.

Personally, I would rather love than fight, and I would still like to make games.

And if a robot ever has a “true heart,” I’d love for it to join my team.

I think……..
